Check presented to One Generation Away - 7/27/2021

Recent high school grads receive Westhaven Foundation scholarships

Due to our community's continued generosity & support, another check was presented to One Generation Away last Thursday by Ed & Christine Klehammer, long-time WH residents who have been making weekly trips to One Gen's warehouse on behalf of the WH Foundation delivering food donations since 2/20.

(In photo below, from L-R, Elaine Whitney, Ed Klehammer & Chris Whitney.  The Whitneys are the Founders/Directors of One Gen.)

Since then, WH residents have donated almost $20,000 & approx 20,000 lbs of food.

This most recent check was the result of contributions made to meet One Gen's need to purchase a used fork lift.  This past March, it lost its lease with little notice.  While they were able to find a great space, it is without a ramp thus making it quite a challenge to transfer food from vehicles into the warehouse.

We are within $1000 of meeting our desired goal.  A donation of any amount would help us inch toward achieving it.

When Westhaven residents formed the Westhaven Foundation in 2000, board members included college scholarships as part of the foundation’s primary focus.

The scholarships are based on the spirit of the Westhaven community, which promotes exemplary volunteer service within the community and beyond.

The Westhaven Foundation’s $2,500 Fountain Scholarship and $1,000 secondary scholarship are presented to college-bound seniors who live in Westhaven. The $2,500 Grimes Lift Scholarship and $1,000 secondary scholarship are presented to seniors who live in Williamson County but not in Westhaven.

Westhaven has a <3 Day! - 5/11/2021

Check presented to OneGenAway - 6/5/2020

In 2006, the very early years of Franklin’s Westhaven community, Southern Land Company, the developer, provided residents with the opportunity to create the Westhaven Foundation as a nonprofit organization.

Its mission is to bridge residents and fundraisers “through financial support and volunteerism” while encouraging others in the community to create their own programs and “make a difference.”

Westhaven Has a Heart Day rose out of the foundation’s care and compassion committee in an attempt to help others by doing more than writing a check.

“We can do more; we want to do more,” said Jeff Carson, Westhaven Foundation president. “Things come up.”

On June 3rd, Larry Yarborough and Dana Hardy, on behalf of the Westhaven Foundation's Care & Compassion Committee, presented a check to OneGenerationAway! The check was made possible by the generous donation by Christopher Hodges, a relatively new Westhaven resident who hails from Mississippi and who opened up a State Farm branch in the Cool Springs office in October. Please join me in welcoming the Hodges to Westhaven and thanking Christopher for his magnanimity and his community mindedness.

Westhaven’s 2019 Concert 4 The Cure Generates Big Money for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital - 2/18/20

The Westhaven Foundation presented a check last week for $53,000 to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, representing proceeds from the 2019 Concert 4 The Cure (C4TC), to support pediatric cancer research at the hospital.

The 14th annual C4TC took place Sept. 7, 2019, on the great lawn of the Residents’ Center in Westhaven, a Southern Land Company (SLC) community. The night featured a mix of popular bands, an extensive silent auction, food and the promise of raising vital dollars for pediatric cancer research.

“This is an incredibly important event to so many people in Franklin, and especially within Westhaven where multiple families have dealt directly with childhood cancer,” said Matt Magallanes, Vice President of Business Development at SLC and board member of the Westhaven Foundation. “Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital does world-renowned work that the Foundation, Southern Land Company and so many sponsors, volunteers and concert attendees are honored to support.”
